We had a brunch at Lian Thong Restaurant which is the traditional Hainam kopi tiam in Taiping.
We ordered Bomb Mee and Prosperous Mee. Both noodle’s soup are starchy sauce, mild and gentle taste we love it.
The uncle served us are so kind and friendly. We like almond tea so ordered 2 cups each and my favorite Hor Ka Sai ice. Then, the uncle whispered us, “Do you know the almond tea smells like cockroach?” We asked him ”Is it? You meant not recommend it to us?” He replied, ”It’s good, good for health!”
When it was served, straight away we smelled it…. Nothing, it’s rich flavor of almond tea… Even if it smelled like cockroach, we do not know because we’ve never smelled cockroach… We laughed until tears come out, why he said like that…
The black vinegar served with Prosperous Mee is super nice~~! At the beginning enjoy the original taste, then add the vinegar, we could taste 2 types of soup~!
Whenever I visit Taiping, I always stop by the Galeri Penjara Taiping. This time they didn’t have much products, but sometimes you can find Malaysian craft with affordable price.
Then we visited Perak Museum which is the oldest and the first museum in Malaysia built in 1883.

Breakfast, we had Pulut Ayam, Nasi Komok and Nasi Ulam Utara at the stall. The Ayam Goreng tasete is very similar with Japanese Karaage. Pulut with crunchy onions, it was perfect to boost our energy.
We visited Kota Kayang Muzeum. This museum has 3 galleries, history, Royal collections and Culture.
Especially their weapon exhibition is worth to see. They have beautiful garden and cave too.
Kota Kayang Muzeum

Our mission is driving Peninsula from edge to edge without using any highway. It takes more time reaching to the destination. But when you drive kampung road or coast line, you’ll find very nice view.
Today we drove to south, using R152 which is the coast line from Kuala Perlis to Dataran IMAB. We love this road very much.
Entered small fisherman village and we bought some dried fish there.
Drove from edge to edge, we could see Pulau Penang from the peninsula.
端から端を走っていると、思いがけずにも半島側からペナン島を一望できましたよ。

We skipped our lunch, so Andrew san took us the local food place. After that he took us the beautiful old church. Thank you very much for your kindness, Andrew san and SPACE IV TYRE SERVICES!
We arrived to Taiping at 9:45pm safely.
Our dinner/supper was delicious fried chicken at hotel which Andrew san da pao for us.

11:18am, we reached to Samila cafe which is one of the old cafe in Alor Seter that Madew sensei told us.
The interior and food are very simple and classic. I recalled my childhood, when my grandfather took me to Kissaten (Japanese tea room) in those days.
We ordered tuna/club sandwiches and Knickerbocker Skyscraper for the dessert. Even I don’t know about those days in Malaysia, its made me feel nostalgic.
Too comfortable here, we stayed for 1 hour and half…

4:02pm, we arrived to Gua Kelam which is located near the border of Thailand. The cave is easy to walk, even small kids can enjoy it. About 350m depth, 30-45 minutes to walk. If you want to explore more, you need to join the guide tour.
Up to more from the Gua Kelam, you’ll reach to the view point. This is amazing place. You can see the unique scenery of Perlis from the mountain.
Perlis is a small states as you know, but they have beautiful nature and clean eateries. We stayed 1night 2days only, but we’ll come back soon and staying longer for sure.

8:15am, we headed to Northern-east coast which is the border to Thailand. On the way, we found huge buddha which heights approximately 30m include the building.
To the edge, we droved the unpaved road. From the edge, we can see the colourful building of Thailand. There are abandoned house called Galeri Tengku Anis. It was very very hot and my co-driver checked the weather, she told me ” Google said its temperature feels like 43℃ now.” I was almost fainted….
We passed by popular Budu shop in the Kamupung, Pantai Geting.

We stopped by Guillemard Bridge which is a single track railway truss bridge, second of the oldest but the longest railway bridge in Malaysia. The bridge was constructed between 1920 and 1924.
Now this site is very well maintained as a park and like a small outdoor museum.
Kept on driving to the West. We found a mizium orang asli Jeli. Orang Asli Museum in Gombak explained about Orang Asli whole Malaysia, but here they focus on Jahai tribe. The curator guided us very kindly. We hope to come back again when we got time more….
It was heavy up and down steep Route3, Johor to Kuala Romipn. On the other hand, Route 4 Kota Bharu to Belum is gentle but long steep and short down steep. While I drove Route 4, my eyes or brain got something wrong, I couldn’t see the road conditions properly, weather its going up or down…. Route 4 made me confused. It was tough driving for me with manual car on Route 4… My co-driver advised me, ”Up!”, ”Down!”. Then finally I could drive smoothly…
Before getting dark, we arrived to Belum. Relax and well rest in the rainforest tonight…
